"Finally!" Finally? Yes, f-i-n-a-l-l-y. I have been waiting for the start of my favorite season, aka autumn, since the last leaf fell last year. So yes, I think you can imagine how excited I am it is coming closer, and closer, and closer and... closer.
I am going to reveal my five favorite things about autumn, in case you already suffer from the post- 'Long walks on the beach, fresh pineapple juice and laid back summer nights' depression.
1. The beautiful colors of the nature
Have you looked at the trees next to the highway when you drove to your office this morning? N to the o. Will you do this in a month, probably around the first time you notice how truly beautiful these fall colors look? Yes! Oui! Si! Aber ja! There is nothing I love as much as a good morning walk in the nearby park (with or without my dogs - depends on their mood! I swear Luna has been suffering from a terrible morning mood since a week or so), astonished about the beauty of the nature, especially when the morning is a little bit chilly.
I drive the parkway between Washington DC and Baltimore quite often and believe me, you don't pay attention to the environment until fall. Amazing!
2. The weather
Ok-aaaay, we all love the warm weather (I said warm not hot - tell me guys, do you have any tricks to refresh yourself during these unbearable hot periods? We probably won't have them until next summer but I swear I need some tips. What I usually did was walk two blocks to get an ice cold Starbucks and then lock myself in my flat until 8 pm. Well, what a life...) but when it comes to me, there is no weather I fancy as much as the breezy but pleasant autumn weather. Yes to raindrops! Yes to a little breeze! Yes to the 'Let's look all (naturally!) tanned in the aftermath of the summer while enjoying a -according to me- much more pleasant climate.
3. New fashion
Don't get me wrong: there is absolutely nothing I disliked about the spring- and summer fashion but one way or another, I always look forward to the fall items. There is the NYC week in the beginning of September. Hello to fashion heaven! Let's dress like Carry Bradshaw and pretend we're part of the happy few attending each fashion show (Marc Jacobs! Valentino! Givenchy! Viktor & Rolf!) - first row of course.
From what I have seen in magazines and blogs, I absolutely adore the new trends.
The new fall fashion brings up army... Booooorrrring. No, because it so much more sophisticated and classy than the army trend we saw before. Yay!
I am a huge fan of layers. "You never know, it might rain or get really chilly" is probably my most used sentence so yes, I am glad we'll see original beautiful vests.
The mighty day. It is my favorite holiday, next to the fourth of July, Christmas and my birthday (oops - someone is egotripping right here. Call 911!). First of all, I have a thing for pumpkins. It started when I was a little child and my grandmother made pumpkin soup. The best frigging soup I ever had, and ever will have. I started to create a slightly extraordinary obsession with pumpkins, where I'd used to scar them (I made sure they looked verrrrry scary so I could frighten the neighbors - poor sweethearts!) and lit a candle in them. And... Don't even get me started on the Trick or Treat tradition my sister and I had. We were the absolute best! Once we received an entire box of Godiva chocolates (which are, as you probably know, quite expensive!) from a lovely lady who thought we were burglars. Strange story but oh such fantastic memories! I still attend numerous dress up parties in October. Well... A part of me will never grow up, will it?
5. Fall veggies
I have a veggie-addiction (next to my chocolate addition, my shopping addiction and my - well nevermind!) and I can't wait to have the typical fall vegetables, such as Belgian endive and Brussels sprouts (Major shoutout to my home country!) as well as cabbage and celeriac. Green vegetables are definitely among my favorites so I can't wait to have broccoli and the ones named before again. I had huge binges at the countless barbeques I attended over the past three months (Sour onions! Pickles! Tomato's with rosemary!) because there is nothing as good as a cold salad on a hot summer evening, but... then there is this tiny voice in the back of my mind who reminds me of the fact of how much I enjoy cooking (I mean real cooking, not peeling a tomato and cutting a lettuce while shouting at my boyfriend he should turn on the BBQ) and trying new dishes with these veggies. So pretty please, let the autumn come already!
Let me know what you're favorite thing about autumn is... Or if you überhaupt like anything related to it. Have a lovely day and... don't forget to invite me to your dress up Halloween party! I have officially never been more ready for the start of my favorite season, thanks to the burning hot summer.
